"On the whole, the millimeter wave global industry chain has commercial capabilities, while equipment functions and performance need to be improved, and terminal capabilities need to be improved."
Chinese role on the track
In view of the fact that the United States and South Korea have begun to deploy millimeter wave networks and applications several years in advance, some voices on the network are also discussing, "Is China still lagging behind the US and South Korea's millimeter wave leadership?"
In this regard, Yang Guang explained: At the level of systems and terminals, the technical capabilities of Chinese manufacturers should be on the same level as international competitors; in terms of network deployment and operation, although some foreign operators started earlier, they are actually The scale of deployment is still relatively limited, so there should not be a significant gap between Chinese and foreign operators in terms of millimeter wave network operating capabilities.
"However, in terms of chips and core components, the domestic industry chain is not complete. Compared with leading international suppliers, there may still be a certain gap in technology and supply capabilities. Faced with a certain degree of uncertainty."
Undoubtedly, China has always been at the forefront of the world in terms of 5G network scale and application trials.
But on the millimeter wave track, China is not the one that runs fast.
At the same time, Yang Guang also mentioned that the current applications of millimeter wave 5G in the international market are mainly focused on fixed wireless access, hotspot coverage and industry applications.
In the recent American Football Super Bowl game, the three major US operators have deployed millimeter wave 5G systems in the competition venues, and the measured data rate at the game site has exceeded 1Gbps.
In South Korea, regulators intend to use millimeter wave 5G to focus on the development of industrial Internet applications. They not only distributed 800MHz millimeter wave spectrum to each of the three major operators in South Korea, but also reserved 600MHz spectrum resources for industry private networks in the millimeter wave band for the industry. Users deploy dedicated 5G networks on their own to promote the development of 5G industrial Internet.
Obviously, all parties involved in the 5G millimeter wave industry in China are also waiting for the release of relevant spectrum policies.
So, before the 2022 Winter Olympics, can this strong wind of millimeter wave be implemented in more scenarios?
